Appalachian State University men's soccer (2-2-1) was edged in a 1-0 overtime setback to a formidable ETSU (1-1-1) squad on Saturday evening at Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex.
The Mountaineers were held without a goal for the first time this season while coming away with zero shots on target. Appalachian battled a very solid squad in the Buccaneers, as they are expected to compete for an NCAA Tournament spot.
It took 92 minutes for a team to score with ETSU ending it on the only goal of the game, but the Black and Gold gave its former SoCon rival all it could handle. Five different Mountaineer fired away shot attempts on the night, while Jake Chasteen (Watuaga, N.C./Boone) got his fifth start of the season and picked up four saves.
Appalachian will look to get back on track against another strong opponent in No. 2 and 2016 national runner-up Wake Forest on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Winston-Salem, N.C.
