Appalachian State University women's soccer (1-5-2) almost completed the second comeback in as many contests but fell in overtime to UNCW (3-4-1) on Saturday evening 2-1.
Trailing 1-0 in the second half, Sharon Osterbind (Jacksonville, Ala./Jacksonville) found Erin Settle (Mooresville, N.C./Mooresville) for her first score of the season to tie things up and come-from-behind for the 1-1 stalemate. For the week, Osterbind finished with a solid two assists and a goal to give the redshirt senior four points on the year.
After Appalachian's lone goal in the contest, the offense couldn't gain any more momentum as it would attempt just one shot by Sarah Peatross in overtime.
The Mountaineers would get unlucky in the 98th minute when Kirsten Boots headed the goal to give the hosts the win.
Taylor Ray (Indian Trail, N.C./Porter Ridge) and Sam Steyl (Charlotte, N.C./Ardrey Kell) each split time in the box for the Mountaineers.
Appalachian will look to bounce back on Friday, Sept 15 at 8 p.m. in the Sun Belt opener against South Alabama at 8 p.m.
