The Lenoir-Rhyne Volleyball Team (3-2) won its 2017 home opener with a 3-1 victory over Lees-McRae (0-4) Saturday afternoon at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium. The Bears won by scores of 25-16, 22-25, 25-11 and 25-19.
Lenoir-Rhyne senior outside hitter Brooke Redmond (Statesville, N.C.) led the way with a match-high 19 kills and 11 digs while sophomore defensive specialist Anna Smith (Harmony, N.C.) also added a double-double – 29 assists and 14 digs – in the win.
Lees-McRae was led by Caitlyn Smirne (Winterville, N.C.) with eight kills and Courtney Weathersbee (Raleigh, N.C.) finished with 20 assists and 12 digs but the Bobcats hit just .028 for the match and continue to search for their first win of the year.
Lenoir-Rhyne redshirt freshman Laila Horton (Charlotte, N.C.) added 10 kills as the Bears finished with 13 blocks as a team.
Lenoir-Rhyne opens South Atlantic Conference play Tuesday when the Bears travel to Anderson, S.C., to take on Anderson Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
