Lenoir-Rhyne University's Michael Schlegelmilch has been named the 2014 South Atlantic Conference Men's Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete Of The Year, the first in league history.
Schlegelmilch, a senior defender from Holly Springs, N.C., has a 3.66 grade point average while double majoring in finance and sport management.
Schlegelmilch has been named to both the Dean's List and President's List at Lenoir-Rhyne and is part of Chi Alpha Sigma, the National Athlete Honor Society.
Schlegelmilch, who is on the Lineberger Academic Scholarship at L-R, is part of numerous organizations including Omicron Delta Epsilon National Economics Honor Society and Delta Mu Delta National Business Honor Society and is the currently Vice President of Alpha Lambda Delta (National Freshman Honor Society).
Schlegelmilch has also been involved in several community service activities including Hands On Hickory, Habitat For Humanity and the Make-A-Wish Foundation and volunteers at the Hickory Soup Kitchen.
This year, the Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Lacrosse Team earned the school's community service award this year with its work with the Special Olympics and the Wilson Creek cleanup.
Schelgelmilch is also a Bears of Distinction Tour Guide and works with several youth lacrosse organizations including the Tar Heel Lacrosse Club, BattleLax and South Wake.
On the field, Schlegelmilch played in all 14 matches with 12 starts and helped lead Lenoir-Rhyne (10-4, 6-1) to a share of the first-ever South Atlantic Conference Regular Season Championship in school history.
Schlegelmilch is on schedule to graduate Magna Cum Laude from Lenoir-Rhyne this month.
