The Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball Team (12-28) picked up a 9-3 victory over King (14-27-1) Tuesday in a non-conference game at Bears Field.
L-R junior outfielder Ivan Vieitez (Miami, Fla.) finished with four hits and five runs batted in as the Bears beat the Tornado for the second time within a week.
Trailing by a 3-0 score, the Bears reeled off the final nine runs including seven in the fifth and sixth innings to take the win.
Vieitez gave the Bears the lead for good with a two-run single in the fifth inning before adding a two-run double in the sixth frame as Lenoir-Rhyne finished with 15 hits on the day.
Sophomore shortstop Matthew De La Rosa (Austin, Texas) added three hits while senior Austen Gunnels (Hitchcock, Texas) improved to 2-1 on the year after earning the win on the mound.
Gunnels did not allow a run in over six innings of work in addition to five strikeouts as the Bears held the Tornado scoreless after the second inning.
For King, Justin Trent (Kingsport, Tenn.) hit a solo home run in the top of the second inning but Mitch Stophel (Bluff City, Tenn.) fell to 2-3 after suffering the loss.
Lenoir-Rhyne remains at home to host Winston-Salem State on Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m., at Bears Field.
